About

Tricia Philips

Welcome!  I'm so glad you found me:)

I am a birth educator, mother, and ever evolving human.  I live in Staten Island, NY with my husband and

4 lively children, who were all born at home.  The births of all of my children have impacted my life in unique ways (as well as the labor experience I had with a miscarriage).    I've had the privilege of receiving care from 6 amazing home birth midwives, birth assistants, labor and postpartum doulas, and childbirth educators, and lactation specialists over the span of 12 years.  However, the labor and birth of my first child in 2010 changed my life on the most fundamental level.  The space held for me to learn, grapple, and grow by my midwife, doula, childbirth educator and my husband were so unexpectedly nurturing and paradigm shifting.  I had no idea that pregnancy was a gestational period for me!  My experiences seemed so different than any of my friends and family who had given birth before me, and I knew I was connecting to a whole different way of seeing myself and what I was going through.

During the transition phase of my first labor I had a full blown mystical experience.  At the time I thought I was hallucinating, but I know now that I was initiated.  Every part of me was expanding.  I became connected...like a bridge between the seen and unseen worlds...between the physical and spiritual....the known and the unknown.  It was the biggest surprise of my life.  I did not know it then, but in that mystical experience, I was accessing more of my wholeness then I even imagined was possible.  That experience changed me.  Being a mother...being human meant something more to me.  I was attuned to a greater frequency.  Aware of more that meets the eye.  In my labor I held everything that is possible at once and knew it was good.  A part of me I didn't even know was broken was healed during my labor,  and I fell deeply in love.

Before I became a childbirth educator I was a teacher of the Deaf and hard of hearing.  Teaching is something I absolutely love!

In 2015 I taught my first private session to a couple in Carrol Gardens.  Soon after, I began teaching group classes to couples preparing for home birth in Carrol Gardens, Park Slope, and Bay Ridge. Most recently I've been offering group and private sessions online and connecting with couples from all over.  I've had the privilege of working with hundreds of couples!
